I wanted to share some pictures from my son's 4th birthday party. He wanted a Robot party so I ordered some supplies from The Oriental Trading Company, started saving my empty soup and formula cans, gathered some random nuts, bolts, and hinges, and got creative using my hot glue gun. There are lots of great ideas all over the internet that got my creative juices flowing.
For example, I made this utensil holder out of soup cans, a big formula can, and some colored electrical tape. Isn't he cute? The red and blue plastic forks and spoons are essentially the robot's "hair".
All the food even had a robot theme to it. Here's what we served:
Computer Chips - Potato Chips
Memory Cells - Cheese Puffs
Nuts and Bolts - homemade Chex Mix (recipe below)
Robot Energy - Fruit and Veggie Trays
Battery Cells - M&M's
Machine Oil - Juice Boxes
Fuel Cake - Cupcakes
Robot Pizza - Pizza
Even the party favors were made out of empty soup cans! The kids loved them. I bought one of those can openers that opens the can without leaving any sharp edges. If you don't have one of those one hand, you can cover the sharp edge with colored electrical tape. I filled the party favors with robot related things: a mini slinky, a robot lollipop, glow in the dark bracelets, finger laser lights, and a wind up robot toy.
The games/activities we did during the party included coloring your own robot. I found these cute robot cutouts at Michael's and made the crayon/marker holders out of more empty cans.
We played "Pin The Battery On The Robot". Each child was blindfolded with a scarf, turned around 3 times, and asked to stick a Post-It note with their name on it onto the robot to see who could get closest to the battery.
We also played Robot BINGO!
And lastly Musical Robots. This is similar to the game Musical Chairs but I had taped pictures of Robots onto the floor and the kids had to keep walking in a circle, stepping on the robots while the music was playing. Once the music stopped, whoever was standing on the robot that said WINNER got to pick out a prize. We kept playing this game until each child had a chance to win.
It was such a great party. The kids had a lot of fun and Carson really enjoyed his birthday and the time spent playing with his friends. I just love planning parties and have already started thinking about my daughter's 1st birthday that will be here before I know it.
Since this is a food blog, I'll share the recipe I used for the NUTS & BOLTS.
Party Mix
1 box Rice Chex
1 box Cheerios
1 box pretzels
2 c. peanuts (I left these out.)
Preheat oven to 250 degrees.
Melt 2 1/2 sticks butter. Add 1 t. garlic salt and 1 T. celery salt. Pour butter mixture over cereal mixture and gently stir. Bake for 1 1/2 hours covered and then 1/2 hour uncovered. Cool and store in air-tight container.
This is very cute and I will surely be copying your robot utensil-holder idea for my daughter's fourth this summer. (She, too, is a HUGE fan of robots!) Thank you for the great ideas! :)
