Mickey Mouse Oreo Favors

My son decided he wanted a Mickey Mouse theme for his 3rd birthday party this past January. For today's post, I want to show you these adorable Mickey Mouse Oreo Favors. (The idea came from www.mypartyfile.com) Aren't these just adorable? The kids loved them! I made some into cookies and some into lollipops.

Directions:
Melt red chocolate melting chips in microwave, until chocolate is melted and smooth. Dip the bottom half of each Double-Stuffed Oreo into the red chocolate. Gently slide a lollipop stick directly through the center of the Oreo cookie (through the white filling in the middle) and stop just before it comes out the other end. Lay on waxed paper for the red chocolate to dry.

Hint: If you are having troubles with the Oreos breaking, pop the Oreos in the microwave on defrost for 10 seconds before you dip them in red chocolate and insert the sticks so the centers will soften up and the stick will slide right in.

Rub a dark chocolate melting chip on the side of a hot kettle to slightly melt it, and gently insert between the biscuits. Repeat for the other ear. When the icing is dry, add two dots of white icing (I used a tube of white icing) for Mickey’s buttons. Store in an airtight container, and refrigerate if the weather is hot!

If you want to give them as party favors, pop each one into a cellophane bag, then tie a little ribbon at the bottom.

  1. This is such a wonderful idea! I'm having my son's birthday party next month and would love to make these. How far in advance do you think these can be made? Thanks, Heather

  2. Hi Heather! I would probably make them 2-3 days in advance, just keep them in a cool place. I don't think I'd make them more than a week ahead of time though. Have fun making them! :)

  4. Hi Alex. Thanks so much for your comment. I used milk chocolate melting chips for the ears. Bags of them can be found at stores like Hobby Lobby and Michaels.

  10. I love this idea. How did you got the ears to stick?

  11. Hi Vanessa! Just melt a little chocolate off one side of the chocolate melting chip then press against the side of the Oreo. Once the chocolate dries, the ears will be nice and secure.

  19. Hi Gretchen - I found the red chocolate melting chips at Michael's. Do you have a Michael's or even a Hobby Lobby in your area? If not, you can also purchase them online through Amazon. Hope that helps!

  24. Momma G,
Did you use the double-stuffed Oreos? Also, make sure you only push the stick about 2/3 the way in.

  25. Hi Kathie,
These are awesome! I am in process of helping a friend with a Disney wedding in fall 2012. I think we may have to make these for the shower or work them in somehow to the wedding. I love them. Great job!

  27. Kathie,
Thanks for the idea. I did these for Valentine's day and used Snackwells' chocolate covered mini pretzels for the ears and they turned out pretty cute:) I couldn't find the red chocolate so I ended up dying white chocolate red (which took half a bottle of red dye) and white non pareils for the buttons. Still turned out really cute. Thanks again!

  28. Great idea! My daughter is 2 soon and I wanted to do a Minnie cake for her, I am going to do this but do pink for the pants and pipe a bow between the ears! Thanks for the idea!

  29. Making these for my kids' 2 and 4 year joint bday part a month before we go to Disney. Question: Do you think using icing tube for white buttons is easier than just dropping ball sprinkles, like nonpariels, or no? The white ball sprinkles are much cheaper than tube icing, plus tips, but I am afraid I'll hit my fingers on the chocolate b/c I'd have to do it before the chocolate hardens, instead of after.

  30. White nonpareils would work great too! Dropping them on while the icing is still wet would not be difficult and you could always have a toothpick on hand if you needed to move it a tad after dropping in on the icing. Either option would look great so just do whichever you feel more comfortable doing. I'm sure they will look great and your kids will love them!!! :)

  36. Did you have any problems with the ears melting during the party? I tested this out and it seems that the ears melted quite fast. I'm worried because the party is outdoors in a garden and I don't want them to melt. Is there a better chocolate to use or method to make the shape?
